HISTORIC PIPE ORGANS
I have been on two documentary projects that are related more by coincidence than design. Both projects were documentary photography in churches .
In 2014 & 2015, I photographed historic pipe organs designed and finished by Roy Perry in East Texas and the surrounding area . Mr. Perry (1906-1978) was the organist/choirmaster of First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore for 40 years: 1932-1972. After World War II, he became the regional representative for the Aeolian-Skinner Organ Company of Boston. He is acknowledged as a genius at organ design and tonal finishing. His masterpiece may well be the organ in his own church in Kilgore, Opus 1173, built in 1949 and revised in 1966. His last work was a major rebuild of the E. M. Skinner organ at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
The organ project was in association with and in support of the East Texas Pipe Organ Festival, where many of the photographs are maintained and periodically displayed. A book of the organ photographs was published as well. Link
